Since, I would be participating in play, I select the role of Aksenty Ivanovich, who is the shopkeeper in the play “The Chameleon” by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. This character serves an important point of view, which can give insight about people and culture. The manner in which Aksenty interacts with those people of the town substantiates the meagre absurdity in their behaviour and their tastes which shift recklessly with social class. In taking that responsibility I would underscore the issue of hypocrisy and how people easily shift their stand to suit their interest. Doing this role, I am able to look at the issue of morality and how the society affects conducts in a humorous manner with food for thought.
